Licensed LINE Friends BT21 plush toys and unlicensed copies can be distinguished by four criteria: license marking, price, manufacturing quality, and origin. On low-price platforms — AliExpress, Temu, certain Amazon Marketplace sellers — fakes represent the majority of available items. Here's how to identify an authentic product before purchasing.
LINE Friends License — the only reliable marker of authenticity
An official BT21 product is always issued under LINE Friends license — this mention is present on the tag, packaging, and the seller's product description. The absence of this mention is an immediate red flag. Counterfeiters often accurately reproduce BT21 visuals but cannot legally display the LINE Friends logo or the official copyright. In product photos, the difference is sometimes invisible — it is upon receipt, by touch and embroidery inspection, that the true quality is revealed.
BT21 Counterfeits — risky platforms and price asymmetry
An official Standard BT21 plush toy ranges from €20 to €40 depending on the size and character. Any product listed below €10 for a Standard size is almost certainly a copy — the production cost of a licensed original makes this price impossible. Platforms to watch out for: AliExpress, Temu, third-party sellers on Amazon Marketplace without explicit mention of the license. Specialized stores like BT21 Shop distribute only licensed products and systematically mention their origin. To understand the manufacturing standards of originals: see our Cooky plush toys and Koya for direct comparison.

Why buy official in 2026 — and where to do it
BT21 counterfeiting has been on the rise since 2024, driven by the universe's continued popularity and the arrival of new audiences through collaborations like McDonald's (September 2026). The quality gap between an original LINE Friends and a copy has widened: originals have maintained their manufacturing standards, while copies have reduced their costs. BT21 Shop distributes all eight characters in Standard and 30 cm cushion sizes, shipped from the EU — free delivery from €50, 30-day returns. For all characters: see the shop.
