BT21 is coming to McDonald's in 2026: What you need to know

BT21 · Updated August 2026

A BT21 x McDonald's collaboration is expected in Europe starting September 2026, in the form of a Happy Meal accompanied by miniature toys representing the LINE Friends characters. This type of collaboration—already deployed in Asia—relies on a distribution of limited edition figurines with no possibility to choose one's character in advance. BT21 Shop is neither a partner nor a supplier of McDonald's; we only distribute official LINE Friends licensed plush toys.

BT21 Happy Meal — format, mechanics, and limitations of the collaboration

BT21 Happy Meal toys operate on a random rotation distribution model: each order includes one toy from the available characters, with no guarantee of getting the desired one. The format is standardized for Happy Meal packaging—significantly smaller than a Standard plush (25–30 cm). The materials and finishes do not meet the manufacturing standards of official LINE Friends licensed plush toys. For a collector or a fan who wants a specific character in a format suitable for room decoration, the menu toy is an entry point, not an alternative.

BT21 x McDonald's and the demand for official plush toys

McDonald's collaborations with kawaii universes consistently generate an increase in demand for licensed products in the weeks following the launch—the menu toy creates discovery, the official plush creates the collection. For Cooky, Chimmy, or Koya in their authentic versions, Standard and 30 cm cushion formats are available now on BT21 Shop, shipped from the EU. To choose the right character: our BT21 gift guide.

Why the official plush remains the only reliable choice in 2026

The BT21 Happy Meal toy has an introductory value—it introduces the characters to a new audience. The official LINE Friends licensed plush has a collectible value: embroidery faithful to the original design, quality stuffing, format suitable for daily or decorative use. The manufacturing difference is immediately noticeable upon receipt. For all eight authentic characters: see the entire shop.
